Autism is a pervasive development disorder (PDD), a realm of neurology and medical science that has much ground yet to cover. A recent study by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) suggests that about 673,000 children in the United States have an Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). That is 1 in 91. An even more drastic 17.24% of boys are affected. Furthermore, analysis suggests that the odds are increasing.

Autism Speaks is an organization for:

• promoting Scientific research into PDDs.


• raising awareness of the disorder.


• finding help for families with autistic children.


• advocating and fundraising for the cause.

This organization has published quantitative research on the topic, making documentaries and conducting in-depth interviews.
It is important to spread the word about autism. It is a world "other-ed" by societal norms which has resulted in little progress in the area. Lack of support has proven to be a major setback to funding research projects and families struggling to raise an affected child.
Awareness also allows families with autistic children get by in their daily lives. Once people are informed, they become understanding and realize the struggle that family faces. Autistic children and their families should never feel embarrassed or unwilling to be in public.
Most of all, we want them to have an easy(ier) and better experience in our world.
